DO YOUR PART::
Here you can download a doorhanger to print and use to remind everyone to take their shoes off before they walk into your home or office. Both locations are very susceptible to interior snow puddles this time of year, and it’s important to keep everyone you know aware of this situation. Remember-the higher the awareness, the more likely these terrible puddles can be avoided. Here’s what you can do::
Examine your footwear.
After walking through snow, muddy slush, or puddles of any sort, check your shoes. Has visible precipitation accumulated? Look at the bottom of your shoe or boot–has snow become trapped in the tread?
Assess the potential for direct snow elimination.
If you find that snow has attached itself to your foot, do not panic. This is a common occurrence. There is a very simple solution that will remove most instances of build-up, en route to your destination:
- Find a very sturdy surface such as a building or a sidewalk panel.
- Swing your leg back and forth while making forceful contact with your foot and this surface.
- Repeat as needed.
Remove footwear completely.
This sounds extreme, but is absolutely imperative to the prevention of interior snow puddles. When you have arrived at your destination and find yourself at a transitional location, such as a patio or entryway, look around for a collection of foot apparel. They tend to congregate. Leave your shoes or boots here. Do not worry. They will be there when you are ready to leave and you can return them to your feet at that time. If you are still very concerned about not being reunited with your shoes, labeling your laces with the downloadable tags at the bottom of this page significantly decreases the possibility for someone to walk off with your loafers. If you do not see a location to store these items, consult the owner of the establishment. Explain your concern, but be aware. A rare, extremely cautious segment of the population prefers to protect their own feet at all times and even go so far as to wear their shoes and boots indoors. Understand that there is nothing wrong with this–it is a personal preference. And, be sensitive-as a result this group of people needs to clean their flooring much more often than most.
These steps will keep you ahead of the puddle-avoiding curve. You will notice that the people around you actively appreciate your concern and consideration.
You might be asking yourself, “What do I do if I step in an interior snow puddle? I’m looking out for everyone, but what happens if someone else is careless and my sock has to suffer?”
The answer is simple. If this unfortunate thing happens, pass the knowledge that you have along to the floor-wetter. Print her/him a doorhanger from this page. Share the statistics, the testimonials. Help this person understand that this is a problem that increases in sock volume from year to year and the only thing that will turn it around is if everyone helps each other eliminate the interior puddle problem.
